Beyond the Elements of Style

Words, words, words ... my first love, my most constant companion, they're the way that I make my living as well as my ongoing passion. I'm a word geek. I love talking about literature, linguistics, publishing, reading, language ... just about anything that's connected with words.

It's my hope that I can talk about words in a way that's either useful or entertaining to others. That's my attempt here; feel free to email me and tell me if I'm reaching it!

E.B. White was, of course, a god. I love The Elements of Style, though I'm a little bemused by those who claim that it's actually a style manual. It's both more and less than that. It's a connection with forms of writing, ways of putting together words in order to inform, entertain, inspire, arouse, explain ... connect.

And what's beyond The Elements of Style? Think of it as a starting-point ... and the place where this blog begins.
